The start of a gaming group

Through various avenues I found a group of people to game with. I posted add in local hobby shops, MeetUp.com, WotC.com/comunity and Craigslist.org. Most of the advertisements looked more or less like this:

I got a lot of responses from all kinds of people. The ones that had the same schedule and seemed "cool" enough to hang out with met at Denny's Restaurant to "scope" each other out...after all gaming is a social event, if I don't like you I don't want to game with you. ;)

Ill name the gamers and the characters they play in future posts as some change throughout the campaign.

Anyhow...We all met and we all got along. Considering everyone answered my advertising and made the arrangements to get everyone together, it only made sens for me to continue that leadership role and run the first game.

  • The Game: The high action/adventure Pulp world of D&D Eberron. The campaign is a Wilderness game in the jungles of Xen'dric, think uncivilized, primitive, tribal, savage...
  • Game prerequisites: The PCs MUST be natives of Xen'dric and have savage/tribal backgrounds, I want the jungle to be your entire world. No Humans (unless you want to make a "Tarzan" build using the monk), no Dwarves, no Gnomes, no half Elfs, no Elfs (Other then Drow), no Warforged and no Kalashtar. Theres a lot of restrictions for the "Classic" Races but the adventure will start at 3 ECL so you have room to play with Level adjustments. Look in the Savage Species and MM for ideas about characters.
  • GM Suggestion on classes: Ranger or anyone with tracking and wilderness skills, Druid and Spirit Shaman(Complete Divine p.14) or anyone with healing would be very useful...also don't forget is the middle of the jungle, think tribal, savage; the artificer can exist in the jungle, weather is a witch doctor/mad scientist type that is an artificer throw trail and error, or another Drow(or some other race) that has found the knowledge in a long forgotten tomb. Be imaginative and inventive.
  • GM Suggestion on Races: I'd love for some of you to play an Eberron specific race. The Shifter is a great race to play in a wild campaign, Halflings have tribal heritage, they ride the Dinosaurs of Xendric(Hint hint...ranger). Kobolts, Drow and Half Giants (Secrets of Xen'drik page 16) have deep roots in the continent on Xen'dric.

We have had a couple of gaming sessions already and we seem to have a lot of fun together. My last group were complete roleplayers so I am used to people really getting in to there characters and roleplaying a lot as a result I usually run dark, gritty, serious games with mature and adult content (I have made people cry) but this is a new group and new to each other so they are still a bit self conscious about getting in to character and roleplaying mush, that is way I choose a setting like Eberron. High Pulp action/adventure games are a bit out of my comfort zone but is something that we can all have fun with.

One of the gamers in the group is a blogger. GeeksDreamGirl inspired me to write about my champaign. She is currently writing about the two games we are running, "Diary of a Drow" & "Companion’s Log".

I don't write mush and with my college classes and girlfriend is hard to find time for anything other then school work and girlfriend so I don't know if I will be able to blog mush but I will try and get at list one blog a weak. My hope is to catch up to e. on her blog/my campaign at the same time I set my own Star Wars character log, look for "An Archeologist's Diary", coming soon.
